Zoning Out with the Thumb

Hey there Aydin,

So I'm on the bed with you. You're on the play gym and I'm next to you. It's warm and cozy in here because the dryer is running. Tomorrow night we're heading down to DC to see your Nanan and Dede one more time before Dede goes back to Turkey. Then you and I are going to drive down to NC and spend a week or so with your Mimi and Papa Skip. That'll be fun. I'll miss your dad terribly, though. I'm a little nervous being away from him for so long! He and I are very much a team, you know. I hope you will be able to sleep at night without your daddy there to rock you and sing to you in Turkish.

Right now, you are in a trance-like state, looking at your self in the play gym mirror and sucking on your thumb. Your breathing is heavy but almost silent. Your other hand rests next to your head, your fingers occasionally grasping air. Your fingers remind me of flower petals. They are so delicate and long. I let you hold my finger for a minute, enjoying the warm created where our skin touches.
