Five Month Likes and Dislikes

Aydin, now that you're taking your morning nap I have a few minutes to actually type. You are becoming more engaged in the world each and every day. You're on the brink of so many new things: sitting unassisted & rolling over, just to name two biggies. You have developed very capable hand-eye coordination and now have no trouble at all putting your thumb in your mouth (which you do a LOT). We're doing a lot more tummy time now and it is a real joy to see you finally beginning to push up onto your wrists, holding your head high and surveying the world from this new angle. I love finally getting to see your neck — and what a lovely neck it is, slender and long! You are such a charismatic creature, borne of many different expressions. You can see that from your photographs, I'm sure: no two picture is exactly alike. Sometimes your Baba is so surprised to see the pictures I've taken because he can't believe you actually look they way you do in some of them! I assure him that they're all 100% you...

Since it's your 5-month birthday in two days, it's time to survey your current likes and dislikes. Let's see...

LIKES
Sofie le Giraffe (great for gnawing!)
Your silver rattle (thanks, Mimi!)
Snarfles (when your Baba blows on your belly and makes you laugh)
Mason the Monkey
Flying around the apartment (we have to get a video)
Riding "airplane" on mommy's legs
Morning time (when you nurse in bed with mommy... well, actually that's one of mommy's five-month faves!)
Going on walks, either in the stroller or facing out in a carrier
Playing in your "entertainment center" that your Baba devised for you (the quilt spread out on the floor with your toys all around)
Musical Jukebox
Alternate universe baby (what we call your reflection in a mirror, which you love to look at!)
Sitting in the Bumbo while Mama eats breakfast
Listening to Toots & the Maytals every night & dancing with Mama and Baba
Playing Baba's keyboard
Taking a nighttime bath with Mama

At five months, you're into reaching for objects you desire (like mommy's water glass and any rattle). You are no longer upset about tummy time, although you do tire out after about 10-15 minutes. You love dancing and listening to music. You become very still when the music is on; you can tell you're keenly listening. Sometimes you even sing along! In the last two days you've become very verbal again, just like you were in North Carolina. We are beginning to suspect that teething is the cause. Does it relieve some of the pressure to make noises?

DISLIKES
Getting dressed after our nighttime bath (sometimes I REALLY cry!)
Putting on your snowsuit
Taking too long to get snapped into the Graco stroller
Getting the sun in my eyes
Morning naps!
