Aydin had lots of fun in DC over Memorial Day weekend. Finally, she got to experience the joy of climbing stairs! She focused on a set of two on the second floor, seemingly made for her tiny legs. She was quite pleased with herself when she first climbed the two steps, as were her Mama and Baba, who were right there with her, spotting her.
Aydin in general has begun to express a lot of interest in standing on her own two feet, usually by pushing up with her hands still on the ground. There were lots of good things to pull up on at H&C's, though, so she got to practice the fine art of going vertical as well: the marble coffee table (which doubled as a delectable teething ring), the rungs of the stair banister, etc.
The other big news was Aydin officially warmed to her Cinar Amca. No more bashful clinging-to-Mama antics (well, at least not 100% of the time)! It was great to see her laughing, smiling, crawling, and eating with all of us, just as comfortable as she could be. She slept well (for the most part), ate well (ditto), and played well. We even went to the Tabard Inn for brunch on Sunday and she was so well-behaved! She ate a few bits of mushroom, potato, and pea from my lunch dish (delicious rockfish with veggies) and thoroughly enjoyed the company of her neighbor, a 1-1/2-year-old diner wisely seated next to us. (It kept the neighbor child well-behaved too!)
The highlight of the trip for Aydin, probably, was watching wii Tennis on John and Susan's gigantic-screen TV Sunday afternoon. She really, really liked the "intro" music and danced in her seat. We watched at few minutes of Sesame Street (thanks so much for TiVo'ing it, John!), eyeballed Guitar Hero for a minute or two, then went back to 804 A Street for more relaxing and fun.
Well, what can we say? Weekends are always too short. We're really looking forward to fall and all the travels that accompany it. Missing everyone like crazy and hoping everyone is in good health and happiness, wherever you all may be!
