Sunshine and New Shoes=Lots of Walking

Hello,

Just a quick hello from Wilmington!  Aydin and I are down here visiting Mimi and Skip, soaking in the Carolina sunshine and breathing the wonderful fresh, Southern air!  The weather is warm and the house bears no trace of the fire that struck in mid-December.  We're so happy that life is finally getting back to normal for Mimi and Skip... as "normal" as things can get with a 16-month-old crying out at 5:30 in the morning!

Aydin, for her part, is walking more than ever, and more confidently too.  Mimi got her a new pair of shoes, which seems to be helping a lot.  Her other ones had a really hard sole, which we think was contributing to the "Frankenstein Effect" of her gait.  Now she's a lot more fluid and even looks like she wants to run!  When she falls, she usually just pauses and says, "Uh-oh," which is a huge improvement over earlier reactions, which ranged from tears to screams of frustration and / or fear.  The kid is nothing if not dramatic.

The word of the day: "flower."  She likes trying to say it and she likes identifying flowers.  Luckily, the camellias are in bloom, plus pansies, a few crocuses, and daffodils to choose from, so she's not lacking in inspiration.  Other new words include "butterfly" and "nice" and she can also now identify the letter "A."  Pretty cool, huh?

On the teething front we aren't 100% certain but it looks like anywhere from 2-6 new teeth are working their way in.  No wonder she's been such a mess lately!  Her incisors on the bottom are definitely beginning to swell, but she's got her fingers way in the back on both sides too, so there may be some more molars in the works.  Poor kid!  In a way we're just ready for them to push on through so we can get on with the business of being a kid.  She has not had an easy time with the teeth, poor thing!

Other than that, we're still trying to figure out the napping thing.  It looks like she's finally catching up on her sleep, probably thanks to her super-cosy, super-dark room here.  She's started taking longer naps again, even taking two a day, so we'll see how things shape up over the next week.  My goal is to get back into a functional routine that includes good sleep for her and a decent break for me as well.  In the meantime, I'm just enjoying every moment with mom and dad, thankful as always to Ozan for letting us be apart long enough to let me get my "NC Fix," as I've come to think of it.  That, Ozan, and running are pretty much the main things that keep me sane these days!  :)
