Sometimes a Saturday without too much planned is the best.
Actually, we had quite a bit going on, but since it was all local, it felt pretty relaxed (a good thing because allegedly, only 2 out of the 24 subway lines were running normal schedules today). The weather report was so bleak we canceled our apple picking / pumpkin patching excursion and stayed home. That was a good thing because Aydin's "first" boyfriend, Gavin, was having his second birthday party at his apartment on 2nd Place and Court. (Gavin and Aydin were neighbors during Mommy & Me Yoga at Mala Yoga when they were about 6 months old.)
Aydin really had the run of the place, being only one of two girls at the party (of about 10 boys!). Basically that meant that she and Phillipa, the other girl, formed a sort of remote camaraderie borne of necessity. Gavin's cousin, Graham, 4, was civil and almost courtly towards Aydin -- to the point that I wondered what might happen 10, 12 years down the line! Apparently he's a Montessori kid and spends a lot of time at school around toddlers and as such has developed a real sense of compassion towards babies. !!! I can't help but think his temperament has a lot to do with it.
In other news, Aydin is kind of obsessed with numbers. We already spend a lot of time counting things, tagging off counting sequentially to twenty, etc., but lately the numbers craze has hit a fevered pitch. When she counts alone she invariably skips certain "unfavorable" numbers" 3, 5, 8, 9, 10 among them. Lately, though, she's been following an even number track. She'll be playing with her toys then look up at me and shout, "2, 4, 6, MAMA!!!". Seriously, all the emphasis is on my name. She does this with Ozan too, and anyone else she feels comfortable enough to reveal her "magic numbers" to. We're debating whether a lottery ticket is in order; we're basically just waiting for a few more numbers to emerge...
