Today we went on an excursion to the
Prospect Park Zoo with our new friend Axel and his mom, Kacy. We didn't take very many pictures, but we saw California sea lions, a baboon family, some meerkats, a red panda, some kangaroos, a couple of owls, and some fish, too! The zoo is nothing amazing compared to its bigger neighbor in the Bronx, but it's sized just right for a toddler. There's even a petting zoo, too, with goats and sheep and miniature horses, chickens, and a cow. Aydin was pretty spooked by the animals, as they come right up to the edge of their pens, eager for some food! (Axel, on the other hand, giggled with glee!) She liked the monkeys, was alarmed by the belching noises the sea lions make, and as usual, cranky as hell about riding in the stroller (ditto with the car seat, it turns out). Axel, on the other hand, is as chill as his name suggests. He was calm, cool, and collected the whole journey—it was kind of funny listening to him "try out" some of Aydin's horrendous shouts and wails on the car ride back to Cobble Hill. (He gave her trademark "bababababa"-in-anger sound a try, but without much enthusiasm.) So... we're bracing outselves for some serious tantrum-like maneuvers this weekend when we drive down to DC. Good thing we're picking up a new car seat tomorrow; maybe her new, luxurious convertible car seat will make her more comfortable for the long haul Saturday morning!
