Well, we've got a few more "firsts" on the medical front. Having first tasted solids on Wednesday, we're now experiencing our first (and probably not our last) allergic reaction to food!
We're not 100% sure the full body (and face) outbreak of eczema is due to the rice cereal, but given that it occurred within 72 hours of introducing it, the chances are most likely the food is to blame.
Can you believe it? We've waited all this time to introduce solids and the very first one we chose turned out to be total k-rap! (Of course, it might not be the rice cereal at all. We're hoping it is, though, because the alternative is much more insidious; it would mean that she has inherited her mother's chronic eczema, which will make her mother very, very sad.) It's not fun watching a little baby try to scratch herself. And, of course, the rash itself is angry-looking and inflamed. She had a lot of trouble sleeping yesterday and into the night, so of course we did, too. Today I just happened to stick my finger in Aydin's mouth (as one does) and discovered the first bud of a tooth poking through! So.... maybe her inability to sleep has nothing to do with the rash at all. Oy vey! When it rains, it pours...
And just to make life a little juicier, we're flying to Ireland Monday night. I always KNEW I'd one day be that person on the plane with the inconsolable child. I just hoped it would happen later. But, full body rash + possible teething + red eye flight to Dublin = no sleep for anyone within a 5-row radius. Sorry, haters!
