food, glorious food

Aydin loves lemons and especially enjoys this plastic lemon juice bottle. She goes to the fridge specifically to retrieve it. Then she walks around with it and sucks lemon juice out of the top. But only with the cap on. Cap off and it's too concentrated a dose of pure bitter lemon.

The night before last Aydin was having a good dinner. She was eating fresh peas and loving it. (She calls them, "Balls.") She tried to stick one in her bellybutton. I told her if she wanted them in her tummy, she'd have to eat them! She laughed, still holding her shirt up. She patted her belly and said, "Tummy, happy." It was so funny!

I'm pretty sure I have Yo Gabba Gabba's "There's A Party in My Tummy" to thank for this increased reception to food. Watch the video for a peek inside the crazy world that is this children's show. It's zany but the music is instructive and so, so catchy. To think we only have one DVD with 4 episodes! (We've ordered the other one for our upcoming trips.) Cable TV would almost be worth it just to have daily access to the Gabba!

Some of the foods Aydin has been eating, other than raw peas: bulgur pilav, pork tenderloin, steamed broccoli, raw carrots, anything pasta as long as is either plain or has just a touch of olive oil and tomato paste as sauce, hash brown patties, fish sticks, Earth's Best chicken nuggets, turkey, celery sticks sliced really thin, and Fig Newmans. We just discovered these after lunch today. Aydin took a bite, raised her eyebrows with a little half-smile and said, "Mmmmm, yummy, yummy."

Oh and she loooooves cookies. Trader Joe's has some cinnamon Alphabet shape cookies that she is totally addicted to. It's great to watch her eat. It's even more gratifying when she asks for specific foods. (She's been known to request bacon by name. That's our girl!)
