Shot in the Dark

Hi Aydin,

Today was a big day! You had your two-month checkup at the pediatrician. Guess what? You weigh 12 lbs, 2 ounces and measure 23 inches long -- you're almost 2 feet tall! Your head circumference is now in the 40th percentile -- that's saying a lot, considering you were in the 16th when you were born!

Your dad had to witness something terrible at the appointment: your look of pain as you got your first round of vaccinations. I was holding you as Dr. O'Connor gave you the jabs: two in your right leg, one in your left. I couldn't bear to watch the needles going in, I just couldn't. I watched your father's horrified face instead. There was a pause between the needle going in and your scream—that's how bad it hurt. Oh, it was terrible, but necessary. Your whole body turned red. Dr. O'Connor put Scooby Doo band-aids over the injections on each leg. You were such a trooper, though. By the time we got outside you were sound asleep against me in the Bjorn. Let's hope you don't have any bad reactions to the shots. If you do, we've got the Children's Tylenol on hand to help combat the fever!

We also learned that the red spots at the base of your skull / bottom edge of hairline is a birthmark. I didn't think you had any but I was wrong! It's called a "Stork Bite" birthmark. It's a horizontal mark, sort of meandering. It shows up more prevalently when you're excited (read: red).

Other things we learned: we need to position you to face left more often so your head doesn't get lopsided (right now it's kinda flat on the right). Also, the bump in the back of your head is a lymph node (who knew we had them there?). Last but not least: it's time for tummy time!
