Aydin Enjoying the Wind in Her Hair
It was such a perfect day weather-wise on Sunday! -- breezy , low humidity, really wonderful in the shade. Who can believe it? I'm sure Hilary and Cinar can appreciate this nod to the weather, given that Sunday was the day of Smith Street's / Bar Tabac's annual Bastille Day festivities. We didn't take any pictures, so just imagine this: several blocks closed to traffic, the street covered with a few tons of sand, which is then divvied up into petanque courts for a competition that goes on until well after sundown. Imagine live music in the form of trumpet and snare drum, great smoky plumes from the merguez sausages sizzling on outdoor grills, lots of champagne, Lillet, and Kronenberg, and as such, lots of drunk hipsters baking in the treeless sun... last year (it was in the high 80s and very humid) I was very pregnant and in no humor to bump into other sweaty humans as we elbowed our way to the one shaded tent. The year before (also high 80s, also very humid) I remember wondering how it was possible anyone would want to consume hot, greasy sausage when they themselves both looked, smelled, and probably felt like a hot sausage themselves? I frankly have never been to a Bastille Day fete on Smith Street where it hasn't been uncomfortably hot. So we were just tickled pink that Sunday's weather turned out to be so agreeable. Only trouble this year? We just weren't in the mood for beer and sausages at 11 in the morning! I suppose a certain 9.5 month old may have had something to do with that. So, we went to the swings instead. Aydin had a BLAST. We'ven never seen her laugh so hard for so long... nor have we laughed so hard and for so long at her amazing head of hair. Check out the live action shots (and hard to believe, but these are actually different photos).
