Here are Ozan and Aydin sitting on the front steps. Isn't Cinar's antique bicycle adorable? We think H & C have done a great job with the landscaping, even if the Irish moss hasn't quite "taken off" yet...
Ahh, the kitchen, where we spent most of our time:
Oh, thou fairest of skin, who will burn first? Who has on more sunscreen?
On Friday, the Fourth, Elissa, David, and little Henry come over for a late lunch. Aydin scared Henry multiple times! It was actually pretty hilarious.
The first time, in the kitchen, on the floor. Aydin takes delight in playing with Henry's favorite bunny, Lucien:
Hilary proves that two years off doesn't dull her culinary skills one bit... Three cheers for flank steak!
After wolfing down lunch we try again. Aydin looks possessed as she discovers a little person plunked down beside her...

At first it's all fun and games:

Henry does a good job deflecting Aydin's advances at first.
But then, it's as though Aydin is possessed:
She goes right for the head, first poking dear Henry in the eye.You can check out Elissa's pictures of the main event on her Kodak site.
Hilary and Cinar showing the love... insert amazing, perfectly-fitting square dining table behind them to the right, please!
On Saturday Uncle John and Aunt Susan came over. John took some really great pictures. As Hilary said in an email, the photos make it look as if Aydin smiled the whole time! That was far from true. In fact, she was her fussiest on Saturday. Looking back on it now, we realize that it was probably teething. We THINK we feel a top tooth poking through the skin. (Of course, we thought that weeks ago and were totally wrong.) It's hard to confirm because Aydin does NOT like to have a finger jabbed into her mouth, poking around to feel a hint of tooth! At any rate, please take a moment to check out John's master craftsmanship, and even order prints, if you are so inclined.
The rest of the weekend went photo-free, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fun. Cinar and I took a stroll through Eastern Market to pick up smoked salmon and bagels; we strolled through the park and up to the Library of Congress (pit-stopping at the Hawk and Dove along the way); we watched bits of some really bad movies (Revolver & Semi-Pro... aka Worse and Worser) and some really good animated comedy (Metalocalypse is brilliant, especially the DethKlown episode). We got tipsy on wine and just spent time together talking and catching up, as old friends and family should do. It was just such a great weekend, it felt like "old times." Hard to believe that what now feels like a special occasion used to be just a regular Tuesday night back in the Pacific Street days! Well, that's no matter because we've got the will and the way and nothing but time to spend together. Looking forward to many more A Street weekends!
